A Family Legacy: The Story of Farmer Ngọc and His Coffee Farm

Ngọc has spent his entire life surrounded by coffee. His family has been farming the delicious beans for over 80 years, and he has dedicated himself to growing some of the finest coffee in Vietnam. In fact, only about 5% of Vietnam's Arabica coffee is exported, making it a rare and sought-after commodity. We are lucky to have access to this exceptional coffee, and Ngọc's beans are no exception.

Born into a coffee farming family, Ngọc grew up on his family's plantation just outside of Đà Lạt City in the Central Highlands province of Lâm Đồng. The plantation was established in 1927 by a French family and has been passed down through Ngọc's family for three generations.

Ngọc's farm sits at an altitude of around 1400-1650 meters and is covered in the region's fertile volcanic soil. This red earth, known locally as bazan, is rich in minerals and provides the perfect balance of nutrients for growing premium grade coffee. Ngọc inherited the farm from his father and changed its name, turning it into the specialty coffee plantation it is today. In addition to the original Arabica Bourbon and Typica varieties, Ngọc has also added Catimor and Catuai, which are more resistant to pests and diseases such as coffee leaf rust and coffee berry disease.

As harvest time approaches, Ngọc's farm becomes a hub of activity as temporary workers arrive to help pick the ripe cherries. The workers carefully hand-pick the best quality beans, leaving the rest to be harvested in the coming days. The work is tough, but the camaraderie among the workers makes it a highlight of the year. After the beans are harvested, Ngọc processes them using wet, honey, or natural methods, depending on his customers' preferences. Wet processing is particularly popular for Ngọc's premium quality beans, as it highlights their unique characteristics and flavours.

If you love coffee or want to try something different, you won't want to miss the opportunity to try these exceptional beans for yourself.
